Answers to the questions we hear most from families and individuals new to disability services.
The easiest way is to call us at (801) 830-1473 or fill out our contact form. We'll have a friendly conversation to learn about the individual's needs, then guide you toward the right service and next steps. You can also submit a referral form if you're a case manager or professional.
For most of our services, yes — DSPD waiver funding or Medicaid is the primary way services are funded. If you're not sure whether your loved one qualifies, contact the Utah Division of Services for People with Disabilities (DSPD) at dspd.utah.gov. We're also happy to help point you in the right direction.
A host home is a private family home where an individual with a disability lives as part of that family's everyday life. It's different from a group home in that it provides a one-on-one, family-style environment rather than a shared living arrangement with multiple residents. Host families are trained, supported, and compensated by Homes For Angels.
We serve individuals with a wide range of intellectual and developmental disabilities, including (but not limited to): mild, moderate, severe, and profound intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy, acquired brain injuries, and Down syndrome. Each individual's care plan is tailored to their unique needs.
Start by filling out our Host Home Application on this website. Our team will review your application and schedule a follow-up conversation. If it's a good fit, we'll walk you through training, background checks, and the matching process. You don't need prior experience — just a caring home and a willingness to learn.
Homes For Angels provides full training before placement, an assigned case manager who stays in regular contact, on-call support for questions and emergencies, and a monthly stipend to help cover the costs of care. You won't be doing this alone — we're with you every step of the way.
Timelines vary depending on the service, the individual's current funding status, and availability. Once we connect with you, we'll give you a realistic timeline based on your situation. If there is urgency, please let us know — we do our best to prioritize individuals in immediate need.
Yes! Our referral form is open to support coordinators, case managers, teachers, medical providers, and other community professionals. If you're submitting a referral on behalf of someone else, please make sure you have their or their guardian's knowledge and consent.
